Our PMLA/LTVP/PLOC experience
Hi,
This forum has been super helpful and gave us loads of assurance + info during the anxious period of waiting for his visa to be approved, so hoping to give back by quickly summarising our experience!
ME: 34F, SC. Since it matters, my salary is 5k
Him: 34M, British. Formerly an EP holder but resigned last year and been coming in and out for past 6 months on a tourist visa, no issues with immigration (apart from the ^&#^& queues at the causeway). He's got a degree from a somewhat okay uni in England.
We applied for PMLA in Feb and got it approved in 2 weeks. We then got married in March and applied for LTVP and PLOC the next day!
LTVP was approved in-principle a month later (we were anticipating a shorter waiting period but we made some minor errors on our application such as wrong DE card number and had to go back to ICA to amend it).
All smooth sailing so far, until we realised we have to wait ONE MONTH to complete the formalities! Now, he has been jobless for a long time and was desperate start his job hunt. We read that some lucky chap winged it and headed to ICA without an appointment and got his pass, so we decided to try the same and went to ICA the day after we got the IPA.
Attempt Day 1: No luck. ICA was packed to the rafters and the officer downright refused to give him a Q number
Attempt Day 2: Still no luck. We grovelled... pleaded with the Officer, who then somewhat softened and advised him to come just before ICA opens its doors
Attempt Day 3: SCORE! We were there at about 9am and we got a Q number. Waited an hour before we got our turn, but was given scathing looks by a matronly-looking woman who demanded to know who gave us the Q number, and said that she wasn't allowed to do so without making an appointment.
We were immediately deflated and thought we would be sent packing but she barked at us to go to another counter and wait for our turn again. Almost 2 hours later... his LTVP card was in his hands YAY!
Was then informed that the PLOC approval (or rejection) would take a week.... but he received the approval via email the next morning.
To summarise: Feb 1 applied for PMLA > Feb 15 PMLA approved > Married March 1 > LTVP and PLOC applied March 2 > IPA received April 1 > LTVP and PLOC received May 2 and 3
We are finally settled down!
Thats all - hope it helps!

Congrats ! One of the reason is because your salary is above the requirement threshold.U2isanawfulband wrote: ↑Tue, 30 Jul 2019 5:22 pmHi,

I dont think 5k is alot but i reckon our age + stable income (i.e working ass off for past decade and paying cpf like a good girl) helps

Re: Our PMLA/LTVP/PLOC experience
Well, the entitled complex tends to do that, but there of billions of people out there who would like to have 1/3rd of that as a salary (including probably 25% of Singapore's labour force). That is the minimum that ICA feels a sponsor should be making in order to support a spouse that isn't working. You made it and that's what counts.
Paying CPF doesn't count for squat. If you were self-employed and were making net 5K/mo you would also have been okay, but you would only have been paying Medisave without the balance of CPF. And in the 36 years I've been working here, I've never seen a local working their arse off. Putting in lots of hours, yes, but check out local productivity levels and you will see what I mean.
All that aside, Congratulations.

My bad, didn't mean to come across as entitled. One has to wonder how ICA comes up with these benchmarks though

I agree. I've never quite figured out where their benchmarks come from either. Aside from the fact that the median income in Singapore is around 5/mo. Household median income is around 7.5K/mo (usually indicates there is more than one person working).

Re: Our PMLA/LTVP/PLOC experience
My husband's LTVP appointment is later this month and I have been trawling this forum for more than a year now so it's very reassuring to read posts like these. I will also share the experience once he gets the physical card.
Just a question to U2isanawfulband, other than the list of documents stated below, do they request for anything else like his birth cert and his highest academic qualification because this page on ICA asks for both parties highest academic qualification but I don't see it in the list of documents they ask us to bring... Or should I be kiasu and bring just in case?
- Completed Form 14B
- Applicant's passport
- Applicant's DE card
- Children's birth certificates (if any)
- Sponsor's NRIC
- Sponsor's latest date of employment
- Sponsor's marriage cert
- Sponsor's CPF statement for the last 12 months
- Sponsor's payslips for the last 6 months
- Applicant's divorce certificate (if any)
- Sponsor's divorce certificate (if any)
- 1 recent passport sized colour photo
- Applicant's medical report
Thank you!

Singapore immigration System is very detailed ALWAYS in providing the complete list of documents that you need to bring for your appointment.MOCHS wrote: ↑Thu, 01 Aug 2019 8:54 pmMy husband's LTVP appointment is later this month and I have been trawling this forum for more than a year now so it's very reassuring to read posts like these. In the appointment letter, is the list of documents not mentioned?

Re: Our PMLA/LTVP/PLOC experience
If you have not submitted it previously, take it. Then if they ask for it, you are already covered. They have already stated on the website that it is required. Do you want to drag it out?
It has nothing to do with being kiasu, but everything to do with being prepared for the unexpected. If it's on the website even if it's not on the appointment letter, do you want to gamble on something like this? I think not.

I listed the list of documents that the appointment letter stated to bring in my original post.singaporeflyer wrote: ↑Thu, 01 Aug 2019 9:08 pmIn the appointment letter, is the list of documents not mentioned?
I'll follow SMS' advice and bring the highest academic qualification even if it's not on the appointment letter.

Hey sorry for the late reply. We only brought what the formalisation appointment required. So that means no educational certs etc
Re: Our PMLA/LTVP/PLOC experience
Hi there!
I'm a foreigner who just transferred to SG due to my recent marriage to a Singaporean. Finally secured an LTVP and PLOC and now currently seeking a job. I wanted to check if there are any PLOC holders here who have been employed? Does it make the process smoother for a foreigner to secure a job here? What processes should i be aware of that i will encounter down the line? Or is it pretty straight forward just secure a job offer and advise MOM of the hiring?
I would greatly appreciate your feedback! Thanks!

You find the job, the employer will take care of the rest with the MOM. You just need to give the employer the PLOC confirmation letter information

Thank you! I was able to secure a short-term consultancy for the meantime and just provided the letter as you said. Now, just need to open a local bank accountsundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Tue, 21 Jan 2020 5:45 pmYou find the job, the employer will take care of the rest with the MOM.
