Company has policy of not allowing LTVP with PLOC

Post by sbd101030 » Tue, 07 Mar 2023 4:20 pm

Hi all!

I am a foreigner in late 20s married to a Singapore citizen.

I am currently going thru the process of changing my EP to LTVP. Based on my history in Singapore with over 8 years stable employment I am expecting to get a PLOC with this LTVP (I understand this is not 100% likely).

I am currently in the recruitment phase for a contract position at one of the Top 4 firms. They told me they will only hire me with an EP and I cannot get an LTVP with PLOC as their company policy does not allow this.

Is there any reason they would say this? Is this common?

Are they bluffing because they know EP is approved quicker and they need someone to start ASAP.
I would think LTVP with PLOC would benefit them as no foreign worker quota or levy. Plus the contract is only 12 months so don't see renewal (every year if no LTVP+) time being a factor.

HR probably didn’t do their homework properly. They don’t even need to pay to inform MOM they are hiring LTVP-PLOC holder.

Are they confusing LTVP issued by MOM vs LTVP issued by ICA? Former they can’t hire without the individual having a valid work pass, latter they can hire without needing work permit, S-pass or EP.

Or does your job fall under restricted occupations list?

But if they want to put you on EP, then just let them do so. Only convert to LTVP if you get laid off.

No restricted category, its a standard project management role.

As it is only a year contract and thus less security I would rather be on LTVP than EP.
Also, as I will be looking for permanent roles during the contract period having LTVP with PLOC would help my chances as I would be able to apply for roles that are only for SC/PR

Then it’s your potential employer’s issue which only you can solve. Ask HR to give you the “company hiring policy” if possible and give links to MOM website about LTVP-PLOC to educate the HR staff.

After 2 years of marriage, ask your spouse to sponsor your PR.
