Questions about PMLA, LTVP and PLOC

Post by ChurrosandMochi » Mon, 08 May 2023 11:34 pm

Hello,
My fiance and I have been following this forum since 2019. We've seen so much good advice come from here so we thought maybe we could get some answers from here.

My fiance (M26, Brazilian living in the USA) and I (F23, SGC) have been dating in LDR for 5 plus years already and met 3 times throughout those 5 years (Would have met more often if it weren't for the pandemic in 2020). We are now considering for him to come to SG for us to apply for LTVP. Problem is my fiance after he leaves the USA, would have overstaying his visa under his immigration record from being brought there as a little kid by his parents and growing up there ever since.

Would this be an issue in our application for PMLA and LTVP? We have all the documents needed under ICA's requirements. I am a diploma holder who is actively working a stable job that pays around 3.1k (about 3 years now) and he has worked in his own company co-owned with his dad under a work permit since he graduated high school. If it is a possibility, would he be able to work here considering he only has a high school diploma as highest education?

We looked around different forums and even looked at Reddit but we see that this forum seems to be the best place for answers. We hope that someone could maybe shed some insight to this issue? Thank you!

No but he will never get back into the USA. (Or at least it will be a decade before he gets back in). Something you may not be aware of is that the US has a special visa cat for Singaporeans that allows Singaporeans to work in the USA. Maybe move there instead? It is the H1B1 and only applicable to SC and Chileans!
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Hey PNGMK,

Thank you for your reply! We did look into the H1B1 visa but unfortunately it's a non-immigrant visa which means after the visa ends, we'd have to seperate still. Plus I hold a preschooling job which wouldn't fit under the "specialised job" category either.

Thanks for your insight though! We're really glad to hear that it won't affect his application.

Once he gets LTVP & PLOC, it’s all up to the employer. He might have to pivot to a different industry altogether. When my hubby had LTVP & PLOC, he did customer service & technical jobs even though he’s a degree holder in mass comms. The job search was very tough and he was jobless for months as many employers are not aware they can hire LTVP-PLOC without levy & foreign quota.

Your SO has to be willing to adapt, be humble & put ego aside because employees here tend to lowball the salary for LTVP holders. Both of you must be mentally prepared for hardship with regards to finances. And can he adapt to the food, weather & culture?

If it’s any consolation, this Albanian man has no degree and still moved here to be with his Singaporean sweetheart and dealt with hardships of being a non-resident spouse.

And I would not suggest Reddit for this as many Singaporeans there have no idea what it is like to have a foreigner spouse.

Hello MOCHS!

I really appreciate your reply, it brought us a lot of comfort. We are aware and prepared that he might have to depend on me plus my family for a while, just until we can fully settle down and he can start his career.

He's very much ready to adapt to the life here in fact that's the part he's most excited about and he's willing to take any jobs that come his way. We also have connections that are happy to help him look around for a job.

Finally finding a community that understands our situation also makes us feel less like we're the only few in this situation not knowing what to do next so we are very grateful to everyone here. 🥲

Do make sure he has no criminal records because that will be asked in PMLA & LTVP. I am not sure the moment he leaves the US and is considered an over-stayer, would he be detained at US customs or allowed to go and whether it’s a criminal record…
