NS Deferment rejected

Post by mimo » Fri, 28 May 2010 11:20 am

We migrate to oz in 2004,my son left singapore at 9yrs and is 15 now. did not apply for ep at 13,not aware of the rule change. He has oz citizenship recently.I have applied for my son deferment recently and was turndown.
Is there anything that we can do? I will get my citizenship soon and plan to renounce together with my wife if it helps. Advise much appreciated.

I doubt if the "rule change" had anything to do with it at all. Saying you weren't aware of the rule CHANGE implies that you were aware of the original rule which means you should have been okay as before the rule change you had to notify at 11 and not 13. Therefore it was probably more like "we no longer are in Singapore so screw 'em".

Frankly, while MS will try to help, I think you will find that the only advice MS will be able to give you is your son is going to have to do NS. Otherwise he will be taking a chance on being picked up if he returns to Singapore as he will be considered a deserter in the future.

Sorry SMS late reply. This is what happen when young bloods run the company and makes a big mess. This old cranky me has to clean up the mess.

Mimo is right on as previously the EP was set at 16 yrs of age. It changes to 13 after the piano man debacle in Feb 2006. But if you serve the NS, you should have known about this.

Now, questions and more questions.

1. What did CMPB tells you of the rejection ? You call or go online ?
Regret to inform unable to grant deferment from NS till 21 pending
renunciation.Send in by post with all info. and doc. they asked for
and got reply by post.

2. Did your son return to SG from 2004 till now ?
No.

3. Did your family return to SG at all from 2004?
only myself on some ocassion.

4. Your son finish Yr 12 or not and now going to Uni
No. In year 10 now.

5. Did you tell CMPB that he has attained OZ citizenship ?
Yes. copy of citizenship sent as requested.

6. Do you have anymore asset or required to serve reservist till now ?
No asset except for my cpf. Finished all my incamp with discharge from
service cert.

Hi MS! Sorry for the answer in this form as i am not familiar how to use this yet.

Let me know and I will give you my 2 cents

NS Deferment rejected

Post by mimo » Sat, 29 May 2010 12:38 pm

Hi MS & SMS !
I fully understand that chances is slim or as good as zero as my intial application was attention to this Ms Yum. So i will write an appeal letter to her again as per your advice. Do i still need to send all documents like all pages of his passport, citizenship and etc which i already did the last time? maybe its enough to give them the reference no. of their reply letter to me.
I applied online for a ep for my son up to 16 and a half before i submit his last application. I was told in the reply letter that according to records,he has remain outside without ep which i know they mean from 13. Was told to advise my son to return to Singapore to resolve his Ns offences asap.

I intend to write this appeal letter after i got my OZ citizenship, renounce Singapore citizenship with my wife. hopefully it helps in some way as i read somewhere in this forum that they do not like to have the parent still as s'porean where the child can renounce his .

Anyway, thanks for all the info. keep up the good work guys.

No, give everything again. They like it that way which means you are serious and quote the reference number too.

I applied online for a ep for my son up to 16 and a half before i submit his last application. I was told in the reply letter that according to records,he has remain outside without ep which i know they mean from 13. Was told to advise my son to return to Singapore to resolve his Ns offences asap.

Correct, even without you telling me I knew this is would be the outcome

Not exactly black as black and white as white. Who did you hear it from ? Myself , SMS ? Different circumstances warrants difference action. Certainly not in your case, that I am sure.

Your choice to wait until 2012. The longer you wait the longer the list of offense you commit.
Communicate with them with earnest NOW if you value your son future and let me know of the first step and we will guide you from there
Never say cannot be done if you never try .
All I can say is that your son will question you when he is old enough to understand. You do not want that to happen , right ???

Anyway, thanks for all the info. keep up the good work guys.

Hi MS!
I have got reply and as anticipated. Told to advise son to return to resolve his offence as not to prolong his offence. To call CMPB about flight details before return to avoid inconvenience at immigration checkpoint.
Is there anything more that i can do? Look like its just to go back and get fine and Do Ns or stay out forever. Thanks.

The torment people get put through for this seems really awful.

Most of my local acquaintances still doing NS duties are old fat poofs, about as alarming as Dad's Army, or the cast of It ain't half hot mum. Biggest gripe? ... no that the Malayus or Indons might invade... but their D&G or Gucci might get creased while in-camp...

Oh... you get it... A bullied conscripted army of limp-wrists...

Solution, mercenary, i.e 100% Ghurka? Or is the door closed to more FT?

p.s. why does the country seem to wish to tie it's children in these knots re: service, that can have real and terrible impacts on the parents?

It's all bull.

Singapore forces can't and never will do anything. Conscription is just state 'conditioning' (er, read, more state conditioning).

The crap families go through, to abide by this chimera, this plastic lie...
