Unpaid Credit Card debt

Hi, anyone can give me an advise for my problem... i was a previously EP holder back in the mid of 2008, our company hit by this global financial crisis, so they decided to take me out, so in the situation that im not prepared, i wasn't paid all my credit card in full, coz i will be able to use my cash back to our country, Now im planning to come back to singapore and look for a new job... any problem would i face going back there, (etc, hold by immigration or any law suit from CC company coz of my debt.... and others...) please advice...

So you did a runner and now you want to come back after shafting the CC companies? Have I got that correct?

MS, yeah, your are right, It's like a pile on after the ball is down.

However.

Once should never accumulate CC debt greater that one can immediately pay off in an emergency if necessary. If you cannot, you are living waaaaayy beyond your means. And that, is actually wrong, but not so bad. However, to not pay your debts AND do a runner to another country, IS criminal as there is no way for the lenders to go after him. That is irresponsible. It also makes it harder, due to more stringent requirements being laid down by the CC companies, for expats trying to get credit here (was a thread here recently about this).

We had another on here several years ago talking about how he was going to do the same thing. At first I though it was our OP here as the timeline was correct but some of the facts were different. It's expats like this and Michael Fay, Nick Leeson and our current "MRT Artist" & his accomplice (who already did a runner) who help give the locals a bad taste in their mouths regarding expats.

Tnx MS and SMS, well its ok guys, i cannot blamed others that thinks im a runner or a thief just like binladen or who ever... im just seeking an advice and idea i thought i can get here, coz im not that type of expat who have a big salary like all of you guys... i can rate my self just like an ordinary employee that was previously EP holder and maybe you know that not all EP holder have a big salary that can handle the situation i encountered that time. i can say i dont have a choice, thats why i do that coz i think first my family as the time i came back to my country. but i will have a chance to settle it in the future i will do so..

What has having a big salary got to do with anything? You spent money you didn't have on a credit card and then didn't pay it back and ran off.

You say you had no choice but it was your choice to spend money you didn't have on the CC and then leg it, if you lived within your means in the first place then there would be no problem. It is irresponsible people like you that were one of the causes of the financial crisis so if you're expecting sympathy you'd better look elsewhere

Whilst true, also a little harsh....... given the recent economic crisis was brought about by half the planet living outside their means, and government sponsored/encouraged to boot.

It is lucky then, i suppose, that we are part Hutt part Human where our minds cannot be easily controlled by Jedi quasi government marketting.

During the recent economic crisis, there are cases that expat run away without giving notice to the landlord.
They just drop the key inside the letter box and SMS the property agent before they flight off.
Without paying all the PUB, telephone bill, etc.

The best i heard was from Dubai though......

At the airport a security guard found a Porsche 911 with an envelope under the wiper.

Inside the envelope was two things, a letter and a key. The key of course was for the car and the letter was an apology to the dealer from whom the guy bought the car from just a few weeks or months before.

If i remember it went along the lines of; "I'm sorry i have to give you back the car, it was lovely, but as circumstances have changed for myself like so many i can no longer either afford the car or my life here."

Please, people, be fair to the OP!
Imagine yourself being laid off with EP cancelled and two weeks to leave the country, during which you'd have to organise a move and many other things while worrying about how to feed your family back home next month. Surely in this situation repaying CC debt incurred during happier times would not be at the top of your agenda.
The law knows no empathy in such cases, but you should!
