LTVP credit card application always denied

Post by cad2sgd » Sat, 25 Nov 2023 5:10 pm

I've been rejected for about 5 different credit cards, of all eligibility requirements. Low tier to high tier no difference in the end result. What am I missing here, not a single bank will tell me why I am being rejected either. I have 18 months on my LTVP, with 9 months of local salary drawn (statements provided). When I was on EP in 2015-2018 I had no trouble getting multiple credit cards. Now on the LTVP it seems basically impossible, even though my salary is triple what it used to be.

If I were a bank/CC company and you applied for a CC from me without a job, I'd reject you to. Full Stop.

Hi, you may have some credit records or debts you are not aware of which may be affecting your card application.

I suggest you buy your credit report at Credit Bureau Singapore:

https://www.creditbureau.com.sg/buy-my- ... eport.html

Then look a good look at your report and the rating. If your credit has any problem, it should be highlighted there.

Hope this helps.

You should know that each time you apply for a credit card they do a credit check. If you are rejected after that, it affects your credit score, which is why each rejection makes your chances for approval in the future future even lower.

Another point of contention would be the type of pass you are holding. LTVP means if your sponsor loses their EP, you also lose your LOC. No matter how much you make, you are not in control and you could find yourself in a bind should your sponsor lose their job as both would be jobless. (unless the rules for LTVP have changed you are working with a Letter Of Consent (LOC) correct?

If you had a passport renewal and the number changed, Singapore credit bureau does not automatically link your old credit history under your old passport to your new one. You have to contact them and provide scanned copies of your new and old passport - only then they can combine it all together.

I have been through 3 passports here and all the while on EP. I only realized this was happening on my 3rd passport, so I contacted them and got all 3 passport’s credit history combined… since then I was amazed at how easy and how high of a credit limit I was given.

Far too many folks have left Singapore with credit card debt. I can't even get my wife (EP holder, me PR) are supplementary Mastercard from Maybank.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

That’s because Maybank is allergic to Yanks, I’ve tried and was rejected at Maybank as well.

What about the route of getting a secured credit card? Is that possible for LTVP holders

Probably not without a co-signor who is a PR/SC. The banks have been burnt badly.
