You can't, only an employer can apply for an EP. You are limited to a tourist pass which will be for 1 - 3 months depending on your passport.

You can look for a job on a tourist pass but you can't work.

A quick question about apply EP

The confusing part is - self assessment tool says I'm eligible for S pass and EP. When I try to apply for EP-Online, it asks for SingPass If I try to register for SingPass I need SingPassID - DEADLOCK!!!

What the hell is this? May be I don't understand it properly? How can I apply for Employment Pass for 1 year so that I can come there and look for a jobj?

I'm hoping someone helps me here
Employment pass is sponsored by your employer, and to be precise it’s not for searching job here in Singapore.

The SAT tool in the website of MOM, shows your eligibility based on your qualifications and work experience.

Take a deep breath to release the dead lock..! and start reading previous posts to get an idea on how it works.

Hi Chrissanth12,

You can only use the self assessment to check whether you are eligible for S or E pass. Let’s say you found a job and you already submitted the required documents to your HR for MOM to process. While waiting for the result and you are excited whether you will get an S or E pass, then you can use the self-assessment tool.

I would suggest that you look for a job first online as it is not that easy staying in SG while looking for a job due to the cost of living here.

Best of luck to your job hunting! Image

Only partially correct, SuperGirl025. The sel-assessment is not to check whether you are eligible for S or E pass. It is only to check if you are eligible to APPLY FOR'' said passes. It is not saying you are eligible for the pass itself, but only if you are able to apply for same. There is a lot more that goes into the mix other than the listed academics.

Would someone able to tell me, from experience, the time it takes to process an EP application (hold on, bear with me...) if the status is "could not be processed" ?

I mean by this that it is not mentioned Refused, and HR is uploading supporting documents (was being told my degree certificate doesn't say I was "conferred" the degree) and got this update after 3 weeks of applying.

Much appreciated.

I think it's what they call "dead in the water". If it cannot be processed, then they cannot process it. So at that point you need to either find the document that them need or look for another country to get a work pass in. It doesn't mean you were rejected, it means they cannot verify with enough accuracy to continue to process your application.

Hi, Thanks.
I've sent the certificate translated last week to my HR which should answer the questions.
What I was asking is how long does it normally take to review an additional document and does it mean restarting the EP from scratch? I think your suggestion to "find another country" is not really helpful if you don't mind me. I'm a VP with a few years of experience behind me, not a graduate looking for experience in APAC... :)

I don't know the process I'm afraid.

Sorry if I ruffled some feathers, but when all we have is the written word, often we have to just assume as the majority of posters asking stuff like that haven't had too much time in the field yet. (I grant you, I would have similar problems as you had as I rarely change jobs (usually 10/15 year intervals) so I could well have not come across a Government Permit grantor who has questioned my academics (Barnyard degree) as my experience has always held me in good stead. At 71 and an Expat for the last 36 years I reckon I've been down the road a couple of times. ;-)

As to your question, I reckon the answer would be how long is a piece of string. Not trying to be a smartarse, but seriously, we don't know where you are from, what industry you are in, we now know you are a VP, which, frankly, in Singapore doesn't mean too much, as the banks have more VPs than the can shake a stick at and most of them make around 6-7K/mo (you will find Singapore is very loose with titles here). But if you are a VP in the western sense of the word, e.g., talking 250K/pa & up. I reckon no more than 2 months at the outset, one way or the other. There is a bit a new letter being pushed out by the MOM in the last month or so, telling applicants that it could take up to 3 months for processing. (I personally think this is to shake out the "just try" type of folks, or there is a pending GE coming that hasn't been announced yet. They will need to show the population that they are slowing the influx of foreigners since the last elections. But we don't know how many of those who are getting the 3 month letters are being approved or rejected yet. But I can tell you this. About 10 days ago I got one for a British M.Sc Civil Engineer we applied for and today I got his rejection letter. So, who's to say?

Thanks a lot. I should have shared a bit of background, indeed.
I'm a VP/Business Director (UK based, French) would will be working for a very large Advertising and Consulting Agency. 15 years of experience in the field with (only) a High School Diploma in hand. Salary is SGD 200k/annum.
I understand EP's are hard to come by nowadays and yes, it is a very stressful journey for both my wife and I... HR (unfortunately) doesn't show much willingness to either help or reassure, but been told it's not uncommon here...!
Hope the additional information helps.

We have another poster, addadude, who might be able to give you some insights here as he was in Advertising here for probably 20 years, I'm guessing. I think he said he'd been here in Singapore for 25 years now (about a week ago over a pint). He's Irish and like me, he's married to a local girl. And yes, I know where you are coming from, e.g. academics vrs experience. My Barnyard Degree is because I used to be a dairy farmer and all I have is a High School Diploma as well. We are called survivors! lol Good Luck.
