New admission for Pre-Primary school

we are moving from India to Singapore, my daughter is 3.6 yrs old, as per new academic yr starts in Jan in singapore, she will complete 3.11yrs , so pls suggest for which class she will be eglible for...kindly suggest whn the admission procedure starts for the new academic year...

I will be moving to Singapore and already contacted about a dozen schools. Your child is the same age as mine...so it probably applies to you as well.

Formal education starts at age 7.

Before age 7, you have the option of enrolling in Kindy (sometimes referred as preschool) . Your child will be in Nursery Class (followed by Pre-K, KG1, KG2). Some schools do follow the January school year, but at that age, I discovered most just charge monthly(or by term) and you can start nursery at the month you want. Some schools (such as Stamford American International Schools) and similar International Schools follow the August/Sept school year start date. It just depends which route you plan for your child.

Is this different for private schools? Looks like child needs to be age 7 at the start of school in January (enrollment begins in July, so the child can still be 6 during enrollment).

From MOE:
Children born between 2 January 2006 and 1 January 2007 (both dates inclusive) can participate in the 2012 Primary One Registration Exercise for admission to Primary One Classes in 2013.

My son turns 6 in September and is in K2 now. We are about to register him in Ph.3 for P1.

Oh, yes, sorry. My child has a January birthday. So technically it's 6-7 years old depending your child's birthday..starting school term at age 6.

Thanks but it was just a matter of playing the odds. We ended up having to register at our third choice school after we knew balloting would be taking place at the first two.

By waiting until 4pm we got to know all the numbers at the five schools in our area.

For the first we had a 1-in-5 chance of a space and in the second a 1-in-2 chance but I wanted to be the one to decide the area where our son goes to school......not fail in a ballot then be told by MoE which one he has to attend, possibly on the other side of the island miles away from everything we know and enjoy.

All we do then, is put his name down on the wait list at our first choice school and see what happens
