Advice on living on the East Cost

Post by AussieEm » Thu, 06 Jan 2005 9:25 pm

I am moving to the East Coast in March 2005 and I have never been to Singapore before. I will be earning 3, 900 a month and will have all costs of living to pay....will it be enough? Its all a little daunting right now and Id love some help. Thank you :)

hey aussieem

i'm from oz too.. your income will definitely be sufficient cos it's pretty much what i'm on, and i manage to rent a hdb flat in marine parade (condo or private apt will be more expensive tho) by myself plus i have all sorts of bills to pay - PUB, cable, broadband, etc. i also have to support my dog :)

it's enough to eat out, shop and go on short trips every now and then. must admit i don't save much money but life is comfortable.

enjoy singapore!

That's very low for an expat, you can read about earlier posts on similiar questions.

using a bike can help in a number of ways:
-allows u to live somewhere remote (by foot) but cheaper and better.
-cycle everyday to work means u can save money/time on gym

even better, use a folding bike to combine with MRT (can bring in) that can get you almost everywhere without the worry of bicycle get stolen in front of the station.

road surface are good but u need to cycle defensive, always look out for careless drivers (not a lot, but even a few is too much)

you can do pretty nice things with the money safe. e.g. buy the most expensive bike to show off ;-)

Hi Aussieem,

Your in a Great Neighbourhood staying in the East Coast - the Sun, the Sea & the Sand - Not to mention the great Food Choices you would have. The prices for stuff are relatively cheaper there, although a trip to The Heartlands ie HDB Towns would offer a great shopping experience.

The Transport system is excellent ie travelling by Bus or MRT as these two modes are the most cost effective.

Welcome & Look forward to your stay here.

Rgds,
Pablo
