Something to note: if you need Google maps, you can make the cache the area map ahead of time, e.g. while you're connected to free wifi. Go to the place you want cached, zoom in (or out) enough of the area you want cached. Then tap the search bar and scroll to the very bottom and tap "Make this map area available online."

for offline maps, i find the nokia maps the best. although not using it much, i have played around ovi maps for symbian (good old days when nokia was KING) and also nokia drive for WP.

google maps are OK but i find it not as slick as nokia drive for offline.
