My job is going to Singapore
SIN-TOD, they were doing out of Selatar, if I remember correctly ..JR8 wrote:Wow just checked. They only seem to be doing KL > Redang and Tioman, and that's it. No more SIN-TOD.
Wouldn't want to be invested-up in a business on Tioman right now...
For SIN-TOD, with the new aircraft, I am not sure if they did work out the legal paperwork, and It has to be from Changi, and slots etc ....
Yes, it used to be Dash-7 STOL out of Seletar to TOD.
But then later when SEL closed to such 'recreational' traffic, the flight moved to the Changi budget terminal. I did it maybe 8 times from SEL, and perhaps twice from Changi.
Either way I need to resolve this. As I/we are now in a slow wind-down phase... and one question has been... where do we want to go and travel regionally, before we finally leave... i.e. what's your 12-18 month tick-list of 'never been' and/or 'have to return to one last time'?
[perhaps one for another thread]

For some flying ..JR8 wrote: Either way I need to resolve this. Go to Indonesia, and fly on the Porters to Papua .. ??
Or try a 146 Quad Jet landing in Wamena ?
or go to Philippines, and take a shuttle in a BN 2 out of Tugegarao to anywhere ?
Or in Philippines fly a almost-barely-alive Beach Airliner or YS-11 ?
Or head to Nepal and do a drop in the Flight to Lukla, on a DHC 6 or Do 228 or .. whatever they can squeeze into that little runway ?
or did you mean other than flying ?? LOL
years ago, I was in a DC 9, in Philippines, and the guy seated next to me was finding it a bit hard to see push-pull switches . and wondered aloud how old the plane was ..
I casually said maybe this one is about 30 years or so old ..
it was a bit of cruel fun to see his terrified face for the rest of the flight ..
What the....what happened? LOL What do airlines have to do with it lol!
Anyway thanks for the insight guys (on and off topic).
I agree with some of the early posts in that it's the going rate in SG for a grad with 2 years exp. It's actually slightly higher. It seems that the time of expat packages is long gone, the deal is on a local basis. Maybe if I was a hot shot in finance then yeah!
I'm not expecting to live a lavish lifestyle (I don't in the UK anyway) and could live happily renting a room in an HDB.
That's something I'm quite curious about actually, why are western foreigners so eager to live in condos? I've seen some very decent HDB flats during my visit? It seems like it's a status/show off thing.
What I'm really after is the work experience and career development. I'm not planning on staying more than 3 years really.
I'll try and push for more but it may be asking for trouble because I'm the one losing my job over here!
Anyway thanks guys!

I can actually comment on this, because I have lived in bothZ2H wrote: That's something I'm quite curious about actually, why are western foreigners so eager to live in condos? I've seen some very decent HDB flats during my visit? It seems like it's a status/show off thing.

You may have seen some nice HDBs, but quite a number of those being rented out are in relatively poor condition, especially compared to a new-ish condo. I have seen one they wanted to rent for 2800 about a year ago, it had rotten cabinets and an unfinished paint job, apart from the usual kind-of ugly furniture.
If you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a master bed room in a condo.
Yeah, don't push too hard. I think SG may still be good for a career jump start, though in general you're a couple of years past the best times.Z2H wrote:What I'm really after is the work experience and career development. I'm not planning on staying more than 3 years really.

Many people don't plan on staying, they just do. I have been here for more than 7 years now...
- Most foreigners are not permitted, or are 'dissuaded' by policy from renting HDBsZ2H wrote:That's something I'm quite curious about actually, why are western foreigners so eager to live in condos? I've seen some very decent HDB flats during my visit? It seems like it's a status/show off thing.
- If you have come from a condo, or private property back home, why would you want to downgrade to an HDB*?
- Like many facets of a posting, you're here, working your nuts off. And when you're home you enjoy things like a swimming pool. Would you move have way around the world to live in a 'council flat'? People don't tend to uproot to move here, to then perceive they're going to be less well off.
'A status/show off thing'... hehehe... really.
Anyway, enough already, AFAIK you haven't even got here here yet. Give it time and you'll be badgering condo-living friends to come around and chill by the pool and eye-up some dollies.
* Don't get me wrong, some newer HDBs are super-lux. But they don't tend to come with facilities.
