Did you know that there are over one million US americans living in Mexico???
Just google: San Miguel de Allende, Cuernavaca or Puerto Vallarta...
Really? My comments give your country a bad reputation, not the numerous murders and violent crimes?Mexikaner wrote:This was an isolated event that happened in a border city with the US. so perhaps the best place to retire is the same place where you spent the rest of your life?PNGMK wrote:Back to the topic....
I've met several couples over the years here and there who are convinced they've found the perfect retirement spot. They then spend all their dosh doing up some palace... only to ask me a decade later - "would you like to buy it? We're too far away from the kids/family/socialised medical care in Sri Lanka/Thailand/Spain".
Indeed...sundaymorningstaple wrote:Good point!x9200 wrote:What's their ethnicity?Mexikaner wrote:I think the fact that Mexico is No. 7 in this list is quite accurate. Could easily be in a higher position...

Ha ha ha, ok ok, you win...if you read my other comment, I admit that there have been close to 100,000 killings since 2006. Not trying to hide that. But this is what I mean...if people like to see or hear about this kind of stuff (like you do apparently) then let them find it on their own. Why the need to inform the people on this forum about this dark side of the drug situation currently in Mexico?zzm9980 wrote:Really? Ok, I'll amend my comment. Not all dead bodies are hanging. But finding decapitated bodies would be "just another tuesday morning". Just google about this to find dozens or more stories. If you have a strong stomach, go to "bestgore.com" and search for "mexico". I don't recommend watching the videos, but you can see just the titles of each and the dates. There are tons of horrendous crimes just on the first page of results, and these are the ones where videos of the crimes made it on to the Internet. How many more happen without the videos going online? heh.
That may be but according to Wikipedia you have 16% (~20mil) gringos or alike in your population anyway and there is over 30mil of American-Mexican in the States so in the context of this discussion its rather weak supportive argument. Probably some more concrete ethnical retirees data would be needed.Mexikaner wrote:well, if you're implying that most of them are Mexican-American, well they're mainly just going back home, right?
but honestly, growing up in my home town, close to Puerto Vallarta, I'd see more and more 'white' US-americans...
(it is quite easy to tell when they're not just tourists)
Point is that regardless their ethnicity, these US-americans considered Mexico a safe place to spend their remaining years...x9200 wrote:That may be but according to Wikipedia you have 16% (~20mil) gringos or alike in your population anyway and there is over 30mil of American-Mexican in the States so in the context of this discussion its rather weak supportive argument. That's a very popular and well-known resort town amongst Americans. You should know that. It's not typical of a Mexican city, anymore than Cancun is a typical Mexican city.Mexikaner wrote: but honestly, growing up in my home town, close to Puerto Vallarta, I'd see more and more 'white' US-americans...

agree!Max Headroom wrote:The answer is: don't retire. At least not 100%. Make sure you have some money-spinner gig that isn't necessarily do-or-die, yet gives you enough incentive to keep you buzzed a few hours every day.
Plenty if things you can do online for a couple of hours that keep your brain revved, after which you head off for the links or go fishing or surfing or (for JR8) lawn bowling.
