Where to buy speakers?

Post by Richleeson » Sun, 05 Jan 2014 9:38 pm

Can anyone recommend any specialist audio suppliers where i can buy a good quality centre channel speaker for my home cinema system. I've tried courts and best but no luck.
Cheers

Try the Adelphi Shopping Centre on Coleman St. They are an upmarket Audiofile centre with a lot of shops who may be able to fit the bill.

Lol? Its pretty common to have to upgrade centre speaker on a surround sound system due to problems hearing dialogue, standard centre speakers are rarely good enough, depends what you pay though of course

It would also be a good idea to check the total harmonic distortion of your amp. I've seen a few (mine included, unfortunately, where stereo channel distortion is minimal but 5 channel with sub woofer becomes unacceptably high... to the point speech becomes garbled.

What A/V amp do you have?

Yup - a theatre in a box setup... I have the Philips variety. Two channel distortion specs look great... but then again, you are using all five channels and the distortion sucks... just like my Philips...

A 1000 watts? Power on consumption according to the manual is 95 watts... what's up wit dat?

Not trying to knock you system... just sayin' that the theatre in a box is pretty shitty when it comes to distortion... 3 ohm and 6 ohm speakers make the difference.

Sorry for a silly question but do you have the same polarization between L+R and the central speaker?

I went to the adelphi, wow its an audiophiles wet dream in there!
i bought myself a golden ear super sat 3C, sounded fantastic on the demo in the shop and is a perfect size for my system. The build quality is amazing and if it tests out well when i get it back home then i might upgrade my whole system to golden ear and of course a decent amplifyer.

yeah the polarity is correct as its all on hard wired sony plug connections so it cannot be wrong unless its been done incorreclty in factory :-O
