Zurich, anyone?

Post by kookaburrah » Thu, 02 Jan 2014 4:31 pm

So after 6 years in Singapore, it seems an opportunity to move back to Europe may be in the cards. I need to explore a potential move to Zurich in about 18 months to 2 years.

Has anyone been, maybe in the inverse situation? I'd love some insights on what I should be worrying about (besides the cost of living!)

Heh, not at all. The highest financial calculations I make consist of balancing my cheque book.

I moved to Basel in Switzerland a couple of years ago. I expected it to be quite pricey, as Zurich. Believe me I still got a massive surprise of just how expensive everything is there. Make sure you do a proper examination of the cost of living etc before you accept any contract.

CHF is supposed to be 50% overvalued according to the big mac index and Indian Rupee is supposed to be 60% undervalued according to the same index. So you know what to expect in both these places in terms of costs.

Based on numbeo.com numbers, you will need to bring a couple of barrels of money. Yikes!
