MCE - Marina Coastal Expressway

Post by bgd » Tue, 31 Dec 2013 12:09 pm

Anyone tried it yet? Heading to Malaysia I went through about 10:30am yesterday. West bound no issues but traffic was stationary East bound.

Reading the local press it does seem that the new road layout is causing confusion and jams.

Probably a good idea to avoid for the next few days.

Nice bit of road but very warm on a bike. Wouldn’t like to get stuck in there.

My boss came in fuming this morning after having gotten stuck yesterday for an hour. Didn't have nice words for the LTA, needless to say. I told him that was two major cockups by LTA in one month. The first is the new Downtown Line. It should be renamed the Uptown line or something else as it seems to be 'down' a lot.

Great. Knocks 5 minutes of the commute to work!

Two taxi drivers drives I've spoken with hate it. One said the whole thing is a scam just so LTA could add a new ERP to most drivers commute. He explained some convoluted logic I couldn't follow how it adds $5 to people's commute.

The second one said "gahmen make it for MANY CHINESE ENGLISH LAA". Yeah, I don't get it either. The rest of the conversation was very adult orientated and not suitable to fully detail in front of women, but it was (him) comparing various races of girls by circumference, opening fresh Durians, and I think he said him and I are going to Geylang together this weekend. I'm really not sure, but it was an entertaining ride to say the least.

Oh, and during the durian chat, we actually went through MCE. No jam, but I must say going east to have only 2 lanes for ECP/Fort Rd but 3 for KPE seems pretty stupid.

In Singapore, taxi drivers are the conspiracy theorists. :P

And for the second driver, of course he will talk like that, you're a dude, and on top of that, you're ANG MO!
