Newbie to Singapore and Pregnant!

Post by JoD » Sat, 28 Dec 2013 8:16 pm

Hi!

I have recently moved to Singapore with my husband and I am pregnant with my first child due May 2014. I am looking to connect and maybe meet up with expats ladies also pregnant or with children. I am sociable and find it all a bit isolating here as a newbie. I hope there are others out there!

Hi Jodie,

I've just seen your post about wanting to meet some new mums or mums to be in Singapore. I arrived in Singapore with my hubby on Dec 30 and will be expecting our first bub middle of March. Not sure if you have meet any new mums yet but would be keen to catch up for a coffee.

Charlotte

P.S totally agree with the isolation. I've been keeping busy looking for a house etc, but as soon as that's done I wonder what else there is to do.

My wife is expecting too and is due late April. Have you sorted out the insurance coverage etc for the birth?

We looked into getting insurance for me and the baby here, but chose not to get any insurance at the moment (that's insurance for pregnancy and when the baby is born). My hubby's work wiill cover the health insurance for me once I've given birth and the baby will be covered after 14days.

Looking into the insurance premiums to cover me and the baby whilst pregnant and birth we soon found out that the premiums per year can be just as much as paying out of pocket, sometimes even more. (That is of course if you're looking at a pretty normal pregnancy and birth). So we have made the decision to pay out of pocket and see what happens, we understand that there may be a chance if something goes wrong that we will have to pay possibly tens of thousands of dollars, but that's a risk were willing to take. I'm pretty healthy and have had a relatively boring pregnancy so far so well just wait and see I guess.

Ill let you know our final bill costs once the baby has arrived to compare it to the premiums of the health insurers.

If your not prepared to take the risk, you should def get health insurance just to put your mind at ease.

Hi ladies,

Just wanted to throw my hat into the ring as well. I've been here for about 2 years and am pregnant with my first child due in late June. Very few of my friends have kids or are pregnant so I'm looking to make some mom-friends. I'm happy to answer Singapore questions and maybe those of you further along in your pregnancy than I am can offer baby advice. :)

Anyone interested in having coffee this week or next?

Just tried to PM everyone but not allowed to as I have not made enough posts on the forum yet, how annoying. Where is everyone living? What would be a good area/day for everyone?

Hi Ladies,

I am expecting my first baby at the end of June. I am currently living between Hong Kong and Singapore due to work. My hubby is permanently based in Singapore so I will be permanently relocating to Singapore in mid May.
I know very few people in Singapore and am really keen to meet some new mums due around the same time so that my little boy has friends and so do I!

I would love to meet for a coffee next time I am over in mid march. Is anyone else keen to set up a meeting date?

Alex

Hi ladies,

I've relocated to SG from Sydney for hubby's job since Jun 2013. I have a 3yrs girl and I'm now expecting a 2nd one who'll be due in Aug this yr. I used to be working mum but now a stay at home mum since moved over here. My daugther studies full day in school so I'm free for brunch or lunch. I live in near Orchard/Holland Village side. Happy to meet other new mummies :)

Cheers,

Lucy

Next meeting and doctor feedback

Post by Sandily » Wed, 05 Mar 2014 12:22 am

Hello ladies!
I am Mexican and French and might be moving to Singapore with my husband next May (details with our company are still being sorted out). I am 19 weeks pregnant with my first baby and would therefore be giving birth in Singapore. I was therefore wondering:
1. Have you managed to meet each other already? I will be in Singapore the last week of March and would love to join any get-together you might have.
2. Would you mind sharing your doctor's name and experience, and in which hospital you will be delivering your babies?
Thanks in advance for your feedback, and I do hope to meet you all soon!
Sandy

Hi Sandy
Congratulations :-)

No we haven't met up yet but we can definitely arrange something for the end of March when you are here.

I gave birth at NUH (National University Hospita) we had tto pay for it all ourselves as I was pregnantwwhen we moved out here and the insurance through hubby's company didn't cover me (if yours is still negotiating it may be worth seeing what they can do about that).
I had a really good experience, all the staff were friendlyand helpful, and when I ended up having to have a c-section it was done really quickly and efficiently. I would recommend them to anyone.

If you let usknow dates wwhenyou are free we can arrange tto meet

(apologies for the typos my phone hates typingon this forum and does weird things)
