Keratin Treatment

Post by Rhaddad » Wed, 11 Dec 2013 8:07 pm

Can anyone recommend a reputable place for a keratin treatment. I was told that many places will use lye. I went to see Cedric at Le Papillon because of the posts on him, but I have also heard mixed reviews about his service. Also Toni & Guy told me that it is better to do a series of their $150 conditioning treatment before trying Keratin. Did one today and it did nothing for me. I had to walk out of the salon in a pony tail as they were clueless on how to style my curly hair. So I think Keratin is best, but I honestly don't know who uses real keratin and who knows what they are doing..

Hi Rhaddad - I share your frizzy-headed pain!!

I've been having my keratin treatments and hair styling done by Yoko at Style by Louis at The Central on Clarke Quay for the last year. Here's a link to their blogspot: http://stylebylouis.blogspot.sg.

I first started with keratin treatments in the US, and am very pleased with the quality of treatments provided by Style by Louis. When I first started with the salon, they used a Kerastraight product that required 3 days before being washed out. Just yesterday I had a treatment with a keratin product that can be washed out in 24 hours, so I don't need to be a hermit with flat looking hair for more than one day! I can't for the life of me remember the name of the product, but it is formaldehyde free, and seems to be very tame. This product has left my frizzy hair very soft and shiny, and when I blow it dry I don't even need to use a brush!!

In addition, my stylist gave me some great tips on how to cut my hair so it doesn't become fly-away and frizzy/crazy.

The stylists and Louis, the owner, are all very pleasant, and the salon is very clean. Plus, it's right on top of the Clarke Quay MRT stop, so no problems with getting wet in the inevitable mid-afternoon rain shower!

Finally, I believe they may have a promotion for buying 4 treatments up front and getting a discount - at least you can check into that….

Good luck with your hair explorations - I know how difficult and important it is to find (and keep) a great stylist!

ETA: Really? A series of $150 conditioning treatments before the keratin???? More power to them if they can get it, I guess….
