At 95 years of age and what he accomplished, he lead a good and purposeful life, one that only most of us could only dream about of living.South Africa's first black president and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela has died, South Africa's president says.
Mr Mandela, 95, led South Africa's transition from white-minority rule in the 1990s, after 27 years in prison.
He had been receiving intense home-based medical care for a lung infection after three months in hospital.
In a statement on South African national TV, Mr Zuma said Mr Mandela had "departed" and was at peace.

Yep, Terrorist or Freedom Fighter who changed the face of S. Africa after his release from prison. From that point on he cannot be rightly called a terrorist.
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers
Agreed, the current lot of terrorists don't appear to have the same willingness to move forwards instead of looking backwards as Mr Mandela did.PNGMK wrote:(I'm a fan on Mr Mandela) .... I couldn't help wondering this morning which "terrorist" will be next generations hero.
I am still astounded how he was able to be so conciliatory and see the bigger picture after all those years of incarceration.

I was under the impression that he was a Marxist terrorist, that got rehabilitated (by the West). Because it was useful (to the West).
It'll be interesting to see if any of my SAFR friends have an opinion, but I don't really expect them to be so charitable, as the people here who have never been there.
Over and above that it was all a pretty unpleasant affair, adding in the history with his wife. Allegations of electoral fraud, kidnapping, child murder.
Nice people eh!

If Nelson Mandela was 50-60 years younger (meaning doing what he did today), him and everyone that came into contact with him would have been killed from above with hellfire missiles by aerial drones.
Whether that thought is commentary on unjust and imperialistic extra judicial executions or distorted historic revisionism undertaken by the media, I'll leave to the reader to decide.

Wow. Paragraph. 50 words, average word length, 9 letters.

p.s. Well there has to be at least one cuddly African leader doesn't there? Doesn't there?
We're all in it together nowadays after all. So black tyrants are welcome at the table too.
