Dry-aged steak for home grilling

Post by srd6 » Tue, 03 Dec 2013 3:05 pm

Best place to find/buy dry aged steak (i.e. ribeye or filet) for home grilling? Some of the tenderloin and such I find at regular supermarkets is rather soft and almost gooey, and doesn't sear well on a grill, kind of just gets "grey".

Jones the Grocer, 4th floor at Ion Orchard.

(buying your own cow and fridge might be cheaper though)

p.s. also maybe go and have a chat with these people ... http://www.fat-cow.com.sg/menu-dinner/ The chef is Rob or Ken (sorry I forget), Boston trained, .... on top of his game. Amazing beef.

My husband and I love our beef... and we are always annoyed by how thin the butcher cut the beef in Singapore. A few of our favorite places to shop for beef:
- Isetan Scott Orchard. The basement supermarket sells US Prime Beef and Wagyu beef. Those that are displayed are usually thinly sliced, so you have to request for the butcher to cut a thick slice for you.
- Meiji-ya at Liang Court. They also have several good choices of beef. Note that both japanese supermarket are pricey. They are probably the best you can find in Singapore though.
- James Butchery at Pasar Bella. The guys are friendly and I don't feel I had a big hole in my pocket after buying enough meat to feed 8 for a BBQ.

Huber's is in Dempsey. JR8's Jones the Grocer is also there. The Butcher is in Chip Bee Garden.
Swiss Butchery at Tanglin isn't too bad either

'Jones the grocer' is at Ion Orchard, and also at Dempsey. At the former it's a shop, the latter, a restaurant together with a shop.

The beef at Isetan/Scotts is stuff to marvel at, just wondrous marbling (I have seen nothing like it outside of Tokyo)! Who knows, one day I might be able to afford some ...
