First you need to get birth certificate. We did this at the hospital itself, but you can also go to ICA which might save $20 but frankly is not worth the inconvenience. At this time you should get an Advisory Note from ICA giving you 42 days to regularize the immigration status of your baby. This is an important document and is also the special pass for staying in Singapore initially. You need to contact the Indian embassy/high commission and follow their procedures to get citizenship and passport for your child. 42 days might seem like plenty of time but in these sleepless days it will pass quickly, so you need to move very fast. This pre-planning is a good idea. There are interesting challenges to overcome, like taking an acceptable passport photo of a newborn!
