where to live for 3800SGD/mth

Post by tantan33 » Tue, 26 Nov 2013 7:21 pm

hi all
Im new to this forum so apologies if i am posting this in the wrong place or the topic has already been covered.
My wife and I we will move to singapore in feb next year.
I will work in Keppel road, near Tanjong Pagar MRT station.
We have a budget of 3800SGD/mth, and no car. we would like to live in a nice condo.
where do you think is the best place to look at in our budget, idea being not too far from my work but close to the center as well if possible!

many thanks for your help!

And the above [warning] is going to be an agent, or an interested party.

The usual rosta would be, get a Service Apartment (billed) for a month, and meanwhile find a place to live.

But ultimately it comes down to doing a triangulation of:
- Work location
- acceptable commute
- acceptable housing type
- budget

All the rest, facilities, amenities, derives from that.

later p.s. the referenced agent's posting got deleted ...

I'd love to help, but I've not been down that way more than once in the past 20 years (hardly of much help).

- Commute
-budget
-facilities

Then field for opinion here, eh.

Keppel Road. That's pretty gritty and 'downtown'. [well it is to me, but it's not a place I know that well). Do you want to live in like a local equivalent of Wandsworth or Brixton?

S$3800 should get you a decent 2.5bed place in zone two. I think our place in Toa Payoh area costs that. If we moved a stop or two in towards Newton/Novena, that might only be 1.5beds at that rent. There is a concentration of huge wealth that pays for 'D9/10/11' convenience.... [and cache], just move out a little and you get more space, and rents drop off.

What about International Plaza? Its above the MRT. Taxi stand is right below, some food court. Facilities aren't great. MRT is right below.

Living on top of an MRT station?

Thanks but I'd pass on that!

It's not above it, but the station is right between IP and the Whitehouse. Never hear or feel anything from the MRT. I worked in IP for 12 years on the mid levels and the all the apartments are above that.
