Anon is not something you can 'take down'. It's not an organization. It's just a label people assign themselves and then (generally) say or do stupid shit on the Internet. Are they going to 'take down' every rebellious pimply teenage keyboard warrior on the planet?

*Maybe* they can identify the individual who made the video and specific threats, but that's not anything even remotely the same as "taking down Anonymous".

Jr8 likes to link to and quote Sun Tzu. He should here, as the players (and commentators) seem to have no understanding at all of the 'enemy'.
I understand what Anon is... I've hung around /b enough to work it out (and I can see /b becoming censored by the MDA soon enough). My point is that I believe that Singapore, with support from USA/NSA will actually cause enough harm to idiots calling themselves Anon. that no one else does in the future - at least in relation to Singapore anyways.

It's just like using drones to blow up terrorists in mud huts in Pakistan and Central Asia. No matter how many "high value targets" (and i use that quite loosely since we're talking about anonymous idiots) you take out, 10 more will show up for revenge.

I may beg to differ .. there is a difference in taking out religious and similarly driven zealots, who are willing to kill themselves .. vs Internet Keyboard Warriors, who dare not show themselves in public ..

And I, personally, associate the like of Anon etc, to the Anarchists, who go about burning public property, fighting with law enforcement, just for the sake of showing their anger towards capitalists .. and then go home to have a couple of Smokes and a bottle of whiskey and then act like nothing happened .. the types who are seen in any WB/G8 conference ..

BTW, saw what happened to the Tree Huggers in Russia, when they decided to invade a Russian Oil Exploration vessel .. by the "ECO WARRIERs' ..

PS: some stuff, by the likes of Greenpeace which may seem harmless but for a sailor, can cause serious damage ..

Indeed.

Or maybe they do, and yet they know there is nothing they can do about it, but they can't admit that (obviously).

The irony is that the more of a public hoopla they make about it, the more often it will probably happen in future.

I didn't mean to compare them to terrorists to imply that it was of similar importance in taking them out, just that more roaches will come out of the woodwork.

I also don't agree with your other comparison. I don't even quite follow it, but anonymous is primarily a bunch of juveniles and/or older but social delinquents from the west who feel they have nothing to lose. Online gangbangers and hooligans who don't understand or care about the consequences of what they do, to be discouraged by action of authorities. To follow the gangbanger analogy, there is Sr Mgmt loosely guiding the show and trying to organize a bit of the chaos, but they're much too smart to go out into the limelight and let themselves get caught, say like Stringer Bell (The Wire).

I suspect if the Govt says they were hacked then the million dollar minister in charge of this stuff would be under pressure to quit.

It would reflect badly upon the Govt ....

The under enough pressure from the keyboard warriors.as it is.
Life is short, paddle harder!!

Let's see......

They hack into the Singapore Power and shut down the grid and turn off the tap. Would that get your attention?

You are on an incoming flight and they hack into the control tower and shut it down or shut down the radar reflectors. Would that get your attention?

Might be good to have at least a passing concern..... :-k

Nothing mentioned above should ever happened. It is just security basics to keep such services apart from the Internet.

It's common sense to intelligent people, but that's rarely the case in reality. SCADA systems (industrial control systems) quite often ARE found on the Internet, are are very often not even patched. There are numerous stories about this all of the time, you just have to google "scada hacking" and read a bit.

Even systems that are properly air-gapped from the Internet aren't invulnerable. Just go read about Stuxnet for a great example.

Most of what we talk about on this forum doesn't affect our lives. But we're discussing 'Latest News', and this is 'news'.......... so............ we care?

And it bothered you enough to come and reply to this individual thread?
