World Toilet Day

Post by BedokAmerican » Wed, 23 Oct 2013 12:58 pm

The United Nations declared 19 Nov as World Toilet Day. The idea came from Singapore:

I laughed when I saw the headline but it makes lots of sense.

But the only problem is......

It's as effective as the anti-littering campaign or the Speak Gud English campaign.

I thought Bill Gates and his billions are already on the case

What would the UN do, send a strongly-worded letter?

This is like when my company launched an ideas incubation website. A lot of people were submitting business ideas and inventions. Then one guy suggested that the company should have a theme song. Singapore then is that guy.

The United Nations on Wednesday declared November 19 as World Toilet Day following a proposal by Singapore whose envoy said he did not care if jokes are made.........Their laughter is welcome, especially if they recognize the prevailing and unhealthy taboo that prevents an open and serious discussion of the problems of sanitation and toilets globally
So looking forward to this. I have just cleaned, sanitized and shined my toilets in preparation for the big day.

It is more important how you are going to celebrate that day. Dinner for 3? Maybe. Fireworks? Definitely not.

I think Buñuel had a good ideas for this, in his wonderful film, The Phantom of Liberty:

Eating could be impolite
Be careful what you wish for

Agreed. The UN is a juicily funded talking-shop for largely, unattainable pipe-dreams.

Let's face it, if your plumbing gets backed up for three days, somebody will start hearing about it, therefore, latest news!

And when you plumbing does start to work again, you would appreciate having a clean toilet pretty handy, right?

It happens often enough that all of Sony's new phones/tablets are water-resistant!
