Looking for Violinist + Others for Gypsy/Jazz/Klezmer

Post by sm1980 » Wed, 16 Oct 2013 10:40 am

Hi all,

After over a year in Singapore I feel like it's time for me to get back in the music scene. I am a guitar/ukulele player that used to be a member of the Phnom Penh Hippie Orchestra when I was living in Cambodia. We would play a mix of Gypsy, Jazz and Klezmer music. Here is the band playing the old classic Chassidic Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHGOnY3KfHM) and the Jazz standard St Louis Blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhybQ7p_qU4)

I would like to start playing with like minded musicians again. Ideally my immediate priority would be to find a violinist as it allows some interesting combination from the get go (for example something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFSs8lZUwDY or even better something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lGu8fY_wlk). Then ideally we could start adding more musicians (accordion, clarinet, trumpet, piano etc...). Covers would be the starting point but then definitely moving to originals in view to record and play gigs.

There are plenty of rock/metal/punk/indie bands in Singapore. I'd like to this there is space for something a little bit different. I myself is far from a perfectionist and all levels are welcome as long as you bring passion and enthusiasm. The rest will take of itself. So PM and let's get this Gypsy party started!

If you get to the point where you need a clarinet or sax player, let me know. I'm a classically trained clarinetist, marching/big band sax player and a crappy flutist. Keen to try Klezmer and the others.

Hello! I'm new to Singapore, and a crappy but rather enthusiastic "trad" flute player. in Japan I was playing with a French trad band at dancing events and it was crazy amounts of fun.
We had one klezmer song, Tzadik katamar, to which we danced what we called the "palm tree dance" (not sure if it's the proper name). I would love to be able to play more of those catchy tunes. Would it be okay for me to come to one session and meet you guys to see if it would be acceptable for me to play with you?
