Child care Dilemma

Post by Wd40 » Mon, 14 Oct 2013 8:08 pm

My wife said, she wanted to consider resuming working, she had taken a break about 2 and half years ago for our child's birth.

I enquired at 3 child care centres in our area for Jan 1st start and all are full some have waiting list of about 10 kids.

Full day child care is also very expensive mind you, $700-800 a month so my wife needs to earn at least 3k a month for it make sense, which is not such a big problem considering she is in the IT line and her previous salary was around that mark. But she is on DP, so I am not sure how tough its going to be to get an LoC this time.

We would rather send our baby to child care than have a maid at home take care of her all alone at home.

We are also wondering if my wife should 1st look for a job or 1st look for a child care. I wonder if there is any easy solution to this problem.

You can look at the slightly pricier childcare centers (the ones at 1100-1300 pm) and they usually don't have a waitlist. Enroll there, get on the wait list for your preferred cheap one, then transfer when your child gets in.

I went through this last year and ended up hiring a FDW. When your kid is old enough for full time schooling you can let the FDW go.
