I wonder if Sergei is still around. I believe he's more than a weightlifting enthusiast :P

ronnio_ron,

This is Sergei (sergei82) and yes that is him. Hasn't been on for a while now, but if you do a search of his nick and related topics, he may have divulged location that he uses locally.

The search facility is excellent.

Just to get you started, weightlifting is an Olympic sport: http://www.iwf.net/weightlifting_/the-two-lifts/. The winner lifts the most weight overhead in his/her weight class. Not too many people are into this.

Lifting weights for aesthetics is more akin to bodybuilding or fitness:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/. More are into this.

Which one are you interested in? I'm guessing it's the latter?

OP, I think I can safely say that you are in the wrong forum to discuss matters like this. Your best bet would be to google Singapore Bodybuilding Forums and see what crops up.

Having said that, online forums may have a lot of information but they have a lot of misinformation too and you, as a novice, might well end up being more confused than enlightened. And you will really have no idea whether the 'expert' that you meet online is really an expert at all. There are a LOT of skinny theoretical bodybuilding experts on these forums who learn all their 'knowledge' from other online forums but never actually put it into practice.

If bodybuilding is your thing, check out the Fitness force Gym at Cairnhill Community Centre. It's owned and run by Kevin Chiak who is a former Mr. Singapore and is the official gym of the Singapore Bodybuilding Federation. Kevin really does know his stuff.

If you are into Olympic weight lifting, there is an official Singapore Weightlifting Federation too. Google it and find out where they train. (I believe it is out in Kallang.)
