Query On S Pass and PR

Post by JayaprakasamVinoth » Mon, 14 Oct 2013 11:01 am

Hi,
I'm an E&I Engineer from India, I moved to Singapore in Work permit on Jul 2012 as E&I Technician [1400 SGD as Basic] for a reputed concern which employs more than 5000.

Then after a year, i have changed my employer - SME (current) who offered S pass for me with a little hike in basic remuneration. My S pass got approved on May this year for the pay scale [1800 SGD basic + 300 SGD fixed allowance].

But still i'm not satisfied with my pay scale and worried about the bad marketing of my skills in Singapore.

My ultimate aim was to obtain PR status and to start a Software consultant business here.

Kindly advise me to propel my career towards my goal (i.e, obtaining PR status).

Here are the little information about me.
Educational Qualification : B.E (Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering)
Awarding Univ : Anna University, Chennai (course : Full time, Grade: First Class)
Experience : 5 plus years
Industries: Software, Petrochemical, Oil and gas, Energy(Power)

Certificates Got from SG: Oil and Petrochemical Industry Safety Supervisor

Driving License : Class 2B, Class 3 (Singapore)

Experience in Singapore : 15 months

Linguistic abilities : English, Tamil

Strengths : Good verbal comm skills in English, Project management, Presentation and Negotiating skills (Value addition)

----------Thanks in advance for your advice-----------

5 years exp with S-Pass, and 15 months in SG? Based on the questions from other almost-similar threads, all I can say is "Prepare the plan-B".

Simply said, don't put your hopes too high. Prepare another plans if, in the worst case, you can't extend the S-Pass and need to go back to India. You can read this case for comparison.

I'd say not a chance of you getting PR on your current pay scale, and with only 15 months here. If you manage to more than double your salary in the next 2 years, try then.

Plan B would be to plan for leaving Singapore if your S-Pass is not renewed.

Even if the OP doubled or say tripled his salary in 2 years, I will say he may have 1% chance of getting a PR.

He should start looking to migrate to somewhere else or even look at going back to India.

The only way I see for you to get a PR and propel your career is to marry a local Singaporean. I dont understand why you are so fascinated about Singapore that you are screwing up your career here. If you want to start a software company, why wait? You can do that right away in India. I guess, you being a Tamil has something to do with your affinity towards Singapore compared to other developed countries. Marry a local Tamil then.
