Shipping a few boxes from Australia to Singapore

Post by eastcoastsg » Sat, 12 Oct 2013 3:04 pm

Hi all,

I've searched the forums but couldn't quite find the right answers, so here goes.

I have a few boxes (not enough to fill a container or anything) and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a company that could ship my belongings from Australia to Singapore. Mostly books, clothes and sporting equipment.

Has anyone had to do similar? Thanks!

Most companies will ship 'part-loads', i.e. you share a single container with other people's part-loads.

If it's little stuff, you might also consider doing your own packing, and arrange your own freight.

Allied Pickfords, Crown and others will sell you a "van", a wooden crate that is either 1/4 or 1/3 the size of a container. It ships when they fill the container with vans. Cost is about 1/4 to 1/3 the cost of a container plus 10 to 15 percent. The van is loaded and sealed at your house.

There are also companies that will ship piece goods (bunch of boxes... but just think about this... your stuff hangs around in a warehouse until loaded into a container... the opportunities for theft and simple loss abound.

I appreciate the replies. The van/crate idea sounds like it could be what I need.

Might be worth having a look at the links in this thread, in case any of them work out economically for your situation:
