Urgent need for a contractual job

Post by zee89 » Thu, 26 Sep 2013 4:23 pm

HI.

Its been almost 6 months since I moved in to Singapore with my Husband. He is currently on EP whereas I am a dependent pass holder. I have tried searching for a job at various job portals, but to my surprise all efforts have been vain.

I possess a Bachelor's (HONs) degree in Marketing and HR and would love to pursue a career in HR. I see many postings on a regular basis but most companies have strict reservations for Singaporeans and PRs only.

If any one of you could please advice me on any opening/opportunity as this is getting quite frustrating for me.

Thanking you in anticipation.

With the newest rollout framework for hiring foreigners vrs locals, I fear it's going to be even harder. Especially in a field like HR where HR practitioners are a dime a dozen. There's even an HR school here: http://www.shri.org.sg/

Good luck, you may need it.

Thanks a lot for the immediate response.

However, in my opinion the link that you have posted suggests that it is more for professionals, however I have yet to be part of the workforce here. So i am confused as to how to go about it.

Really appreciate the help.

If you are not a professional then you stand even less chance of getting something. Wish I could be more helpful, but that's the way it is currently. I don't see it getting better in the near future either.

Did you and your husband base your financial calculations for the move to Singapore on the assumption that you would find a job? If so, then frankly that was a mistake. As SMS has pointed out, it's getting harder and harder to secure EPs (or LoCs for DPs) with each new announcement from the gahmen. Some research on the underlying situation prior to contemplating your move here would have revealed the situation clearly. I'm not saying you should give up your search for employment, just trying to reiterate the reality of the situation on the ground.

You might want to seek out the thread about LinkedIn in this forum; you'll see that it has helped a number of people.
