I could live without a car, but not without a motorbike.

My wife however has an impossible public transport commute and uses our car every day.

Had a car for donkeys years in UK. However, when we bought our 1st flat, couldnt find a space in front or nearby the block, especially when we have groceries.
Then council introduced resident parking permit on the road, nearly ninety pounds 20years ago. Easier parking.
We use the tube for work, northern line. Aren't we a lucky bunch? :D Used to treat ourselves to taxi rides back home on Friday evenings. fifteen quid. Then it went up to twenty two pounds and we no longer take cabs.
Moved to a house whereby we have offstreet parking for 2 cars. Meantime, tube fares for zone 1-2 went up to ninety pounds per month.
taxi fares rise 50% after 8pm. And the most frustrating is parking by sms.
