Bedok Reservoir MRT Opening

Post by Pennywhistle » Wed, 18 Sep 2013 1:50 pm

I would love it if anyone has any news on the opening of this new station on the new line under construction. From all I have read it is set to open in 2017, however it seems many things finish ahead of their construction schedules in Singapore! Still investigating areas to live, and although I realise a 2014 opening is extremely unlikely, it would be great to hear if it has been pushed forward to 2015 or 16?

On another note, Bedok Reservoir looks like a lovely green area (thank you Google streetview!). Does anyone know this area, or have any opinions to share?

I think the downtown line at best may open in mid 2016.

I know Bedok Reservoir area. Its very similar to Tampines. There are lots of condos there as well as HDBs.

The area near bedok reservoir market is very nice. There is reservoir behind as well as lots of groceries shopping options like Fairprice and Sheng Shiong.

we walked there 2 weekends ago.
very nice jogging/rollerblading trails around the resevoir. lots of trees and shade.
Not really any play grounds for kids or anything.
it's quite large and you may be able to do some water sports there.
there is also a ropes course through the trees with a zipline over the water.

Do a search for lake flies and suicides. :)

Nice area if you like cycling, jogging and water sports. Don't really know the surrounds but have friends living in the area and they like it.

Most of the SC folks going bankrupt owing to the casinos take a dip in the Bedok Reservoir for good.

Argh! Midges....I hate them. Reminds me of camping in Northern QLD. Yuck! Thanks for the insight.

I can't contemplate suicide by drowning (not that I spend anytime contemplating it!) it seems virtually impossible! I would go into swim or float mode. But I guess if you have never learnt to swim......Thanks for the notice. Although rare-ish I would still hate to take the dog for a walk and see that.

BUT...apart from that, the area does still sound rather lovely. Unfortunately even with the MRT opening early it looks as though travel without a car to where we need to be would be difficult. Shame.

How very sad. This post has gotten a little off track and has taken on a slightly macabre tone.

The public transport from the reservoir is actually pretty good. The forest adventure is massively expensive. Check if the condo has a bus going into or near your workplace. There are all sorts of private buses. Youwouldnt know about this until reading the notice boards. it is easy to get taxis when it isn't pouring. The midges do not bite. Hope this helps.

The Stage 3 of Downtown Line is now due for opening in 2017. Originally the whole DTL was slated for completion by 2016 but apparently the design phase itself was dragging.

Its a pretty long project and the soil conditions in the east side are pretty disgusting (I've heard from engineers working on the MRT) so don't be surprised with further delays and any early opening is pretty much out of question.

There are some daft property agents posting ads for "rental" units with highlights "near the future downtown line". How idiotic these people can be, I mean how can an MRT line that opens 4 years later, be viewed as a positive point, when it comes to rentals for 1-2 years? If anything its a negative considering the noise and pollution.
