Actually it would be more accurate to say around 5 years as prior to that point, even though I had a Singapore wife, and two children born here, I didn't actually work in Singapore, but offshore in the oil exploration/construction industry. Therefore I was not allowed to apply for PR. But I took a land based job in '88 when LKY made his last Nat'l Day Rally speech about taking another look at those who had established family ties here. It still took me at least another 5 years before getting PR. So, I was here for about 11 years before I got it. (I've been here over 30 years now).

Patience is the key. You need patience and must also be a gambler of sorts as well.

I received my PR approval a couple of days ago. Indian, 34 years, in singapore since Mid 2011, 300++, banking , BE Hons and MS Hons, had applied End of aug 2012. Wife - architect , doesn't work here, daughter 3 yrs. Was a full 1 Year wait before I finally got it.

Congratulations! 1 year is really a test for patience. And I also just got approval yesterday, after 10 months' waiting =)

Which just goes to show, the goalposts keep changing almost on a monthly basis. Sure would be nice to have a crystal ball to use around here....
