Quarantine reservation for dogs

Post by Bundles » Thu, 05 Sep 2013 9:15 pm

Hello,

We are relocating to Singapore in mid October from Dubai, and will be bringing our two dogs with us. I've already sent the quarantine reservation form to AVA and have a queue number from them, but someone here has just advised me to make sure I book an air-conditioned kennel for the dogs, not the basic kennel. I figured that they're used to the heat, so as long as the basic kennel is indoors the dogs will be fine with a basic kennel, and it will save us quite a bit of money.

Searching through the forum it appears that the basic kennels are actually outside, however this info is fairly old. Does anybody have up to date information please?

Thanks.

The basic SAQ number is a start, but you don't have a real reservation until after you send them copies of the vaccinations, etc. There are 3 documents they require for the actual reservation to happen:

1) “Acceptance for Quarantine of Dogs and Cats”

Thanks Tanuki. I have those documents, and am filling them in right now. However, I've put husband's name as the owner as he will be the contact in Singapore until I get there, but now I realise in their pet passports I'm listed as the owner. Is this going to matter? I plan on doing as much as I can myself, so I want to get it right!

Does anyone else know for sure what the basic kennels are like?

The basic kennels are actually divided into 2 - an 'indoor' space and a 'outdoor' space. The indoor area has lights and fans for the dog's comfort. The dog can also go sit in the 'outdoor' space which is open and can look outside at the greenery.

I had both my dogs in quarantine for 30 days, and used 2 basic kennels. I kept my dog's poo tray in the outdoor space and the cage they were transported in the indoor space, along with a dog bed and some toys. They were quite comfortable. As long as your dog is used to heat, my opinion is you dont need an airconditioned kennel. The basic one will do just fine.

Brilliant maidsrch, my dogs are certainly used to the heat so I'll stick with the basic kennel. Thanks so much. :-)
