citizenship application - interview date

Postby trashmaker » Wed, 28 Aug 2013 3:10 pm

I applied for Citizenship recently (about a week back) using the online system, and the earliest interview appointment date I got is January 2014. Is the queue really that long?

Yep. Everybody trying to get in before the door slams shut. But if you check the available dates on a daily morning basis, you might catch an earlier opening after somebody realized they don't really have a hope in hell and decided to go home or to Aus/US/UK/Canada instead. If you do, grab the opening and you are good to go. We recently had one with a Jan or Feb date found a cancellation in three or so weeks I believe.

How do I check on a daily basis? Could you share the link here? And will it permit me to change my current appointment?

Just keep logging in and checking via the regular ICA PR portal with your Singpass.

You are only allowed to change once after you signed for a slot.

Hi trashmaker,

Mind me asking a question:
1. Did you go to ICA for manual assessment before doing this online application? Or you just trying your luck in online application?

Hi lfo_24.

I didn't bother doing the manual assessment, I just applied straightaway. I figured it's only going to get tougher from here on, so I just applied. Judging by the volume of applicants, I don't fancy my chances anymore.

So does that means you are already eligible to apply for SC?
Or,
choosing a date is just a part of the process of application without them (ICA) telling you whether you are eligible to apply or not?

Well, the next available date for PR application appointment is Feb 2014. I am hoping lotta slots will open up after the new HDB rule earlier this week.

Hi lfo_24,

I know i'm eligible based on the criteria they've set out, whether they will approve it or not is a different story. Since there is no point system or anything, as long as you meet the basic criteria I believe it's okay to apply.

hmm, so i'm waiting to submit my documents in January....and my colleague just walked over to ICA last weekend with her documents and they accepted her application right there...apparently they don't accept all applications (for some, they take a look at the documents and ask them not to apply as they're not really eligible).

Should I walk in to ICA with my docs ready and see if they accept my application as well?

Sounds reasonable.
