Do Best Denki have regular sales and special offers on TVs?

Post by jamesaevans » Tue, 27 Aug 2013 9:40 pm

I was in Best Denki yesterday looking at the Panasoinc THP55VT60K plasma tv. The RRP of this tv is $4,699 but it is currently part of a promotion at $3,796 which also includes a Blu-ray player (DMP-BDT320), a Sound Bar (SC-HTB550) and 2 sets of 3D glasses (TY-ER3D4). The next best deals I could find were at Courts for $4,499 and at Harvey Norman for $3,999. Therefore, the Best Denki price looks to be a good deal, even without the extras.

The current deal only runs until the end of August and I'm not relocating to Singapore until October. Therefore, I am interested to understand if Best Denki regularly run these types of promotions?

Similarly are Best Denki, Courts and Harvey Norman all good places to shop for large screen TVs or are there other retailers I should also be looking at?

It's probably end of product run with new models in the warehouse so trying to clear existing stocks before bringing out the newstuff. Kind of like the end of model year clearances the car dealers run every August/Sept in the US.

They're the best options in Singapore. The only better place would be the occasional 'expo' they have (I believe every quarter). In those cases though, any real deals will be limited to like 30 sets and have a queue of 300 by 7am in the morning.

But then also a common practice in SG is to play all sort of marketing tricks (or to be just negligent) and very often you can see some products with attractive prices on the web page and if you go there in person you find they are not there - just a very limited stock to flew the customers in with the hope they would buy something anyway.
If OP was there and asked if still available it may be real, but even seeing it in the shop does not guaranty the availability (at least from my experience).

Oh, and one more place to check:

They seemed to have *slightly* better prices than the other places. I didn't do too deep of comparisons though, it could just be they had slightly older models.

I found Mustafa TV's to be very competitive. Large selection as well.

Never had a problem at Gain City or Audio House.

Thank you all for the feedback, it is very much appreciated.

Is there a tradition of Black Friday / January sales in Singapore as there is in the US and UK?

After the CNY / Lunar New Year holiday which is movable between January and March and during the GSS (Great Singapore Sale) which is often a big con job as they raise the prices incrementally all year long and then chop the prices big time so that they still make outrageous profits. :-k

You mean like how Tesco and multiple furniture chains were each fined multiple hundreds of thousands of pounds for pretending a sale was a........sale?
