Furniture - bring from another country or buy on place

Would it be better to bring own furniture when we move to Singapore, or buy it there?
Any scrap collection companies in Singapore? Is it easy to discard furniture there?

Things to consider:

* shipping cost
* humidity
* tenure in SG
* SG dwellings are much smaller

Used furniture are can be sold off in fire/moving-out-of-the-country sale.

Singaporeans usually trash old furniture for new ones for Chinese New Year.

Good furniture can be sold at expatauctions. Reasonable furniture can be sold on gumtree and in garage sales - usually bought by malaysians from across the border

The only reason i brought my furniture is cause my company was paying for it. (and they wouldn't give me replacement money)
Otherwise i wouldn't of bothered. I had to ship it before i knew where i was going to live, and now some of the pieces don't fit well in the new place.

So that could be a consideration for you. My boss had the same issue.
