Chasing the concrete walls inside HDB

Was just wondering - are there any restrictions on wall-chasing within an older style hdb flat?

eg, using an angle grinder to form a narrow channel in existing concrete wall so as to hide wiring, piping.

Can't seem to find information on this.

I'm assuming it's ok for non-structural walls, but what about walls facing corridor, and between my flat and neighbours?

Good question. I'm not real sure, but I am aware that you cannot cut into load bearing pilings so depending where you are running from --> to as long as you don't cut into those piles you should be okay. but somehow I don't think that would work. The best person you could ask would be any RADAC approved contractor. They would know best.

I'm quite certain you can't. When I renovated an older flat in 2000 I asked the contractor to do this and he refused saying it was illegal. I don't know the basis or reasoning but this is why you see so much pipework and conduits laid openly (or boxed over) in HDB flats.

"pilings" has been mentioned. Correct me if I am wrong but this underground and therefore not relevant to the question.

Generally speaking if you know what you are doing then ok to use angle grinder to chase the walls. You need to be careful but 10mm chase is probably safe.

Btw angle grinder = dust
bolster/chisel = no dust but harder work
