European food shops

Post by Zeke » Thu, 01 Aug 2013 6:22 pm

Where do you normally buy your European food?

I have heard of cold storage, but Singapore should have more!

Do you know any other smaller shops that sell western groceries/food?

Our primary source: German Market Place, Bukit Timah and I don't know any other (distinctive). For all the rest Cold Storage, Swiss Butcher, Swiss Bake.
But I am CE and the above fits well my palate.

There is a pretty nice western butcher shop in Parkway next to the Cold Storage called "The Butcher".

Otherwise, I survive with Cold Storage and Fairprice Finest @ Marine Parade.

Jasons at the back of Orchard Towers or in Raffles City. But be prepared to pay.

Sorry about that. It's still listed many times on google. Guess they didn't update very well. I know that when they were open many years ago, they made Jason's look like NTUC pricing wise.

For a European marketplace kind of vibe, we love PasarBella at Turf City (the old race track). Crowded on Saturday, less so on Sunday. Great artisanal cheese, meats, breads, pasteries, organic foods, wines and an AWESOME seafood shop / sushi / seafood restaurant.

While this isn't actually day-to-day grocery shopping, it's fun to get some neat goodies, and we manage to make a leisurely afternoon of it.

European food is everywhere now. I remember in the 'old' days when it was impossible to find anything except sliced processed cheese..

Now, it is better than being in Europe 'cause can get food from EVERY european country - not just the European country you are living in !

It's not better than anything. You get a random small selection of non-fresh food that's 5x-10x as expensive.

+1. Not even some flag-ship products are available and definitely not true that EVERY, not true for "selection" neither. IMO local non-domestic "Western" food is predominantly US, Australian and maybe UK unless one considers pizzas and pastas as Italian. It corresponds to the expat population profile.
