throw away laptop running windows???

Post by pieceofmind » Wed, 31 Jul 2013 4:26 pm

does anyone have a throw away laptop running an older version of windows? It can be a real junker. I only have a Mac and once in awhile I need to use some software that requires Windows. Willing to trade 3 'full length' Ikea mirrors and a small bookshelf. Help please!!

An alternative would be to run a virtual machine. You gotta know what you're doing though.

There are probably some Ah Beng shops selling such computers too (google to find out). Watch out for exploitative prices though.

You can also setup a dual boot with Mac OSX if you know what you're doing.

Here's a helpful link

I have an ASUS laptop from 2007 with Windows XP, not in use for about a year now. It is running fine, though obviously significant signs of use. The hinge is also somewhat broken, so I wouldn't open/close much, and if so only very carefully.

No interest in the IKEA mirrors and bookshelf though, mostly because I don't have space to put that anywhere; might have to be cash.

PM me if that's something you'd consider.

OP said Windows.

If he'll install Windows on a Chromebook, he might as well install a virtual machine or bootcamp on his current machine.

I'd suggest doing what Naka suggested, and installing Windows in a VM on your Mac. If the Mac is relatively current, e.g. only a few years old, the VM will run Windows just as fast or faster than the kind of laptop you're asking for.

Dual boot it with your apple would be the best solution. I used to have a mac at work but always wondered about having more than one OS
