Big 4 Accountant with Oil & Gas Product Control Experien

Post by auri_gan » Tue, 16 Jul 2013 5:17 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and I've just recently started looking at the possibility of moving to Singapore. As a Chinese Canadian who doesn't know how to read or write Chinese, Singapore seems like a very suitable place to work in Asia. I'm hoping you could all give me some useful advice.

I'm a big 4 qualified accountant with 3 years of audit experience, 1 year fo product control experience (associate-level), and 6 months of commercial experience. This experience was all gained within the oil & gas industry. Currently based in Canada and making $108K SGD a year plus an annual bonus that averages $16K SGD (I net around 90K SGD after taxes and govt payments), I'm wondering what salary I should be aiming for in Singapore and how likely it is for me to even find a position.

Should I look while I'm in Canada or should I take a trip to Singapore?

Also, aside from efinancialcareers, what are other good places to look? Should I go with a recruiter and if so, which recruitment firm is the best for overseas candidates looking for jobs in Singapore?

Thanks in advance!

Currently you are a Senior Associate with a Big 4 in Canada? Hmm generally Big 4 Senior Associates in Singapore gets approx $45K annual plus bonus of $8K. Taxes would approx around $1K. Yes, there are candidates with Oil & Gas experience sought after in Singapore, including the Big 4 firms.

If you are at a Big 4 currently - secondment is probably a good option. In the event, after say 2 years, you (as much as I) didn't like living here, you would probably consider returning back to Canada.

Robert Walters, Robert Half and Michael Page are generally the guys that caters to Expats.
