This topic was about an iPhone5. There is no public exploit though, is my point. The probability that an unknown exploit that can unlock carrier locked iPhone5 exists, and the secret is being kept by a small mobile shop in Geylang, in a country where they don't even sell locked iPhones, is next to nil.

There is a greater chance said shop has an in at whichever carrier the phone was locked to, or found an online source and unlocked it while she waited. If you do that though, just go find your own vendor online and do it.

My guess is she did this to an older model and it a couple of years ago.

This has been my problem as well! My aunt brought an iphone from Toronto but she couldn't use it in other countries.
