Post by PNGMK » Mon, 08 Jul 2013 10:47 pm

Obviously we cannot inside trade but is anyone here interested in starting a stock tip club?

I am interested in joining. I think it should rather be investment club. Stocks, Equity funds and Bond funds.

How does a club compare vs just a discussion thread?

To be honest I figured it should be online but a closed thread. Essentially a tip swapping thread.... but no lurkers... if you don't contribute you're out.

This board doesn't have closed threads.

This you can always do but I think it makes very little sense over a public forum. Even plain e-mail is more practical.

ROT13 doesn't throw me off zzm, it's a very simple but effective code though, I've used it many times before.

The negative first: if you are trying to get a bunch of random punters chucking 'tips' out online, then you'll find there are few 'tipsters' as it's a very asymetric landscape. If you have something good, why tell the world... Thus online and anonymous tips tend to be worse than worthless since they must be taken as pump and dump - almost for-sure losers.

I'm interested but every time someone says 'anyone interested to do .... (insert activity)', it seems to fizzle out. There is never an impetus to do it.

I'd suggest you say: Anyone interested in joining a stock/investment club, please come to .... (insert venue, time, etc) - with an RSVP. Make it actionable, not vague and you will have at least a small chance of it happening.

If you want to be chairperson of a 'club', I'll come for a mtg or two at the very least to see what kind of fun can be had. With luck, we can get BillyB to come and tell us some trading tales. If we have to bribe him with beer, so be it :-)

I used to be involved with some online full-time traders called SGX-Traders and we had monthly meetings that were quite interesting. Getting traders of different flavours together can add value.

I'd be curious to see if there are enough folk interested have a pint and discuss some ideas to make this worthwhile. You are right that it needs to be a 'sharing' group. Everyone expected to put ideas forward with justification for discussion. As soon as there are more than a few clubsters, it should have some structure if you want it to be worthwhile.

But if all we get is 2 of us, let's have a beer and talk trades, I'm happy to listen and promise to share far more.

PM if you want to talk... Cheers,
