My company has booked me into the Marina Sands. They told me it is the best of the best.
Is it?

No, it's not. I'd bring my own pillowcase and some flip flops for the shower. You're up to date on your shots, right?

From what I heard from chums and seen its a dump, (though I have never stayed there,) full of PRC tour groups. Plenty of other nicer places to stay, it all depend on what you are looking for convenience to the casino? close to the CBD? back to nature type hotels etc.
Tripadvisor ranks it as no 35 of all the hotels in sg,

In Singapore the Shangri La is probably one of the best of the best.

Surprisingly it's not. My Indian agent stayed there six months ago and is still complaining about it. I think the Hotel service and management quality is shocking from what he has told me. It's closer to a 3 star than 5 star but charges 5 star prices.

I don't think any of the replies were in jest. Of course as long as your expectations are low, you should be okay.

Mine certainly wasn't. The MBS hotel is not worth it's 5 star rating and is essentially an overpriced flophouse for whores and gamblers. Does that make it clearer?

At least they're successful whores and gamblers.
Enjoy your stay.

MBS = 100% Bling Bling. Zero style, taste or class (if I'm still allowed to use that word anymore). A truly dreadful place IMO. Before I lived here, the Fullerton Hotel was my favourite when visiting. It seems to still be very good (at least for a nice lunch on a special occasion; I haven't stayed there for years).
Be careful what you wish for

I am with SMS, Shang is nice, we also use Conrad for business visitors and that's pretty nice from what I have seen of it!
I have also heard standard rooms in MBS are not nice.

Such a shame. I have never stayed there before but with all that hype in-your-face, I was half-expecting these comments.
Whores and gamblers' paradise indeed.

Our fav stomping grounds are the Ritz Carlton after all these years still love the bathtub with the huge window, the rooms have been refurbed but the common areas are getting a bit tired, and Cappella for the "does not feel like Singapore" staycations, in fact going to Cappella in two week time.

The gamblers are comped and the girls spread their legs for the night.... that's hardly a mark of success.

Just moved to Singapore recently and while searching for a place was put up at Sands by the firm. Was a decent 2 week stay but location wise it was pretty far out. Should have asked for something closer to Orchard.
