Gyms - Marine Parade/Joo Chiat Area

Post by KBMamba24 » Mon, 24 Jun 2013 5:05 pm

Hi,

Wondering if you guys can help me. I will be moving to Singapore from London mid July and am looking for gyms around the Marine Parade/Joo Chiat area as I will be working around there. Looking for a gym with a good range of dumbells, barbells and machines. Also what sort of price range in SGD would I expect to pay?

Thanks!

Fitness first at Marine Parade is about the only one. But if you live in a good condo are likely to have good gym also.

I think I saw a gym there before, Joo Chiat Road / East Coast Road intersection (turn left when you are coming from Joo Chiat towards 112 Katong). I forgot the name, and I am not sure if it's still there.

Has anyone tried the True Fitness gym in Parkway Parade? Any good and is it expensive?

I have also found Pure Fitness in Asia Square which sounds good but is apparently about $150 a month. Worth it?

True fitness charge less than fitness first. However IMO I prefer FF bec their instructors and facilities are better.

The gyms in the area (I live in the Siglap/ East coast area btw - just 5 minutes by bus!) that will suit your requirements would be True Fitness (Several locations throughout the island, closest to you would be at Parkway Parade Shopping Centre @ Marine Parade) or Body Craft Fitness (along East Coast road, near Joo Chiat).

I myself am a True Fitness member (locations are really convenient for me) - membership rates can vary, so if you're not happy just ask for a discount or walk away (apparently their consultants will call you with a better offer if you do). I got chopped because of my accent and ended up paying $30 more per month than what my friends do.

My membership costs $120 a month (Black card) for a 24 month contract (6 free months given as a bonus).

Hope this reply got to you in time.

I ended up joining Fitness First as they seem to have better facilities than True Fitness and seems a nicer gym. They provide workout attire and you can access any of their gyms around SG including those with swimming pools. I do have to travel into the city but I live close to the mrt station so not too bad.

My monthly rate works out at about $150 a month once you factor in the admin fees. Exc. admin fee it is $145. On a twelve month contract.

Fyi True Fitness offered me $120 a month for a twelve month contract.

For those with basic gym needs, you can join the community centre gyms which are great value for money. About $135 for three months membership.
