They have some excellent (micro-brew) beers (next door actually, but the bar is under the same owner as the restaurant, so no problem cross-ordering). Some of the food is a bit pricey for what it is, with relatively small servings of the sides. I tried the lamb shank, it was very good. My wife had the sausages, that was so-so.

Also, service is quite ok, at least the service staff are friendly; we also met the owner, nice chap.

Yep, Richard is a nice chap, although, I tendto agree it's pretty pricey for its location and the ambiance. Frankly I'd expect 25-30% off the bill to make it an acceptable price.

Otherwise, the food is pretty good, the Buckshot Ale is good I haven't tried the ales next door, the staff are indeed friendly.

Worth a punt, but, not towards the end of the month when waiting for payday, the bill was definitely a shock.

IPA and a homemade pie. That's next door, Trenchard Arms. Well worth a visit.
