Chance of PR for PhD from NUS

Post by facbon » Thu, 13 Jun 2013 11:07 pm

I got my PhD from NUS recently and have started to work as a post-doctoral researcher in a ASTAR institute. I've lived in SG as a student (student pass) for 5+ years and also worked as full-time teaching assistant (on Emp Pass) in NUS for 2 years during my PhD.

I have a wife staying here, who is working on LOC.

We are thinking of applying for PR. What are our chances of getting it?

For PhD, the concensus now is that you must earn a PhD equivalent salary (average salary of PhD holders in Singapore) to get a chance. Since most PhDs are professors, you need to earn around associate professor salary or about 16000/month basic. Again, there are other factors such as race, country of origin etc, if you are Malaysian Chinese then you are a shoo-in. However, if you are Indian or non chinese from other poorer asian countries such as Burma, Vietnam, Pakistan, etc then chance is low
