It tugs at middle aged middle class womens' heartstrings.PrimroseHill wrote:Today's headline really tug at the heart's stringsDaily Mail is ever so addictive
I'm not sure the other 90% of the population have much time for a front page headline 'Children given up for adoption, reunite 50 years later'.

There you go, completely in their channel then
- Slutty young success story (the horror it could be your children next)
- Google porn ('Do you know what your children are doing on the internet, you're too tired after working 18hr days to fund a bigger extension than your neighbours just had done, to really care about your children aren''t you? Read this, and feel terrible about yourself, and what a loser-parent you are.
In tomorrows edition:
- Liz Jones, part 15652 of 'Why I'm such an arse, and why oh why does everyone hate me for it?'
- Max Hastings on how we must fight the scourge of Germany seeking to take over the EU, 'Nein Frau Merkel ve vill not obey your orders!'.
- Delia with a seasonal spiced pumpkin soup recipe that goes perfectly with the rosemary-focaccia your bohemian mother kilned with Sicilian bellows held between her knees, whilst Rosy, Milly and Tilly, cantered around the paddock on Trigger, Nigger and Spike (the latter who has recently been taking a rather unhealthy interest in the dairy herd).
Next week (every day).
- 'The Albanians are coming, and YOU're going to pay for their 5* lifestyle!'

No, of course not.The student, pictured here with other naked students, hopes her actions will not affect future employers' decisions and that they will 'see it as a bit of fun'

So council house is the equivalent of HDB in the UK? It doesn't say the cost (I assume cheap), but doesn't look half bad!PrimroseHill wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... alary.html
Today's classic. Bob Crowe

What are the rules around them? Should he be moving out? Or is it just like the rich people here who stay in an HDB still?
No. If you live in any borough and are considered in need of a provision of housing, then that borough legally has to provide it. [Side reference: Romanian immigrants turn up in a truck, and get to live in £2m Kensington villas funded by taxpayers who themselves can't afford to buy £60k homes elsewhere]. EU law ... ain't it just great.zzm9980 wrote:So council house is the equivalent of HDB in the UK? It doesn't say the cost (I assume cheap), but doesn't look half bad!

'Council housing' I think was an idea born out of the post-war era. I can see the idealism of it, and also the downsides. Perhaps the 'Projects; in NYC have parallels?
p.s. the original idea of UK council housing, was providing homes at 'fair rents'. Over time, that meant cheaply, or in a non-exploitative manner. It's a double edged sword, some council rents are just silly, like £9/week for a house, the flipside is councils are labyrinthine aerosoles to have to deal with. And so on ... council estates can be ghettoes of unemployment, and all that goes with it ...
