Shipping from UK to Singapore after 5 years

Post by Susu » Thu, 06 Jun 2013 12:03 am

Hi,

We have been living in Singapore for the past 5 years and have recently decided to stay for the foreseeable future. As we still have a lot of personal items in the UK, we would like to ship these over. I have heard that if personal items are shipped after 6 months of relocating in Singapore, then these items will be taxed.
Does anyone know more about this and how can they tax items such as personal photos, personal journals/notes etc?
Also can anyone tell me where I can get information on this?

Thanks a lot.

Used household goods, and personal items are not subject to customs duty as Singapore is a free port - but they will be subject to GST as you are over the 6 month period.Yes, they can be taxed (only for GST not customs duty) but you can appeal. Also, there would be absolutely minimal tax on personal mementos etc.
