Question regarding REP

Post by naniinni » Tue, 04 Jun 2013 12:33 pm

hi All,

I got my PR in march 2009 and its due for for renewal next year march. i have been working in Singapore since then. My company is planninng to move some jobs to low cost locations . i am not sure if i will be able to stay with this job till march 2014. the max i can stay with this job is only till Oct 2013, but i can only apply for REP in jan 2014(3 months before).
i am already looking out for job but just in case i dont get a job that suits my profile in time.

Should i have a job at the time of applying for REP or is it enough that i have worked here for last 4.5 years to get my REP approved?

Thank you

You need to submit the name of your employer and your current pay, when you submit for renewal, online.

if all is well, it is pretty direct and within 5 days you will get a response.. If not, I don't know ...

Why not you try to login the E-Rep site, in October and see if you can renew early ?

I'm sure you can renew your REP 6 months before the expiry. I did it last year in june when my REP was to expire in november (cannot find the link though). Not sure if the timelines have changed since.

Also if you use the e-rep, the approval is instant (have mentioned in an earlier thread too). But there is a disclaimer that the details that you submit at the time of approval should be true.

I guess cases like the OP's is exactly why they changed the timeline. Seems like an easy way to reduce number of PRs as companies are moving out jobs...

My advice to the OP (that is sound advice for any visa status in that kind of situation, IMO) : you should be looking for a job very intensively now. The closer you get to end of the year, the less picky you should be.

A little note : if your REP ends in Dec, you renew now, for example, if allowed, your new REP will run from NOW -> 5 years .. ;) ;)
