part-time babysitting options?

Post by BKNY » Sat, 01 Jun 2013 4:50 am

Moving to SG in a few months and trying to get a handle on the babysitting situation. I was hoping to hire someone for 2-3 mornings/week to care for my 1 yr old, and also someone we could hire for the occasional night out to care for both our kids. From what I've read, it sounds like you can only legally hire PRs/locals for this type of work - so, is it hard to find someone who wants to babysit at a reasonable rate? The only option I've heard of is Kizroo & Mamaroo - are there other services I can look into, or other ways of finding a part-time babysitter? Ideally, I'd like to be able to hire the same person for daytime and nighttime sitting, so that its someone my kids will get to know and feel comfortable with. If you use a service, I assume you wouldn't get the same person each time... Any info appreciated!!

Thanks!

http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/search.php
Search for "nanny" and limit the results to the Domestic Helper & Babysitter Issues subforum. There will be some topics you could browse through.
I.e.: http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/ftopic75932.html

Generally it is very difficult to find someone reliable as live out nannies are both uncommon and expensive.

Thanks so much! Hadn't seen that subforum, despite looking around on here quite a bit (I thought!).

Did you manage to sort your query?

Post by Tracyh » Tue, 17 Sep 2013 12:01 pm

Hi, I was just wondering if you managed to sort your query? I moved to Singapore 6 weeks ago and was thinking of part-time childminding. My husband has started work and I miss being around children. My background is that I have just come from working in a primary school in the uk. I do have a full CRB clearance and would love to spend time around children but not necessarily with all the restrictions of a workplace.

Wishing you the best if you managed to find someone.

Hi laurel

You've just sent me a pm but I've only just signed up today and when I try to reply to your message I can't send a pm because I'm new! Do you know how I can privately reply otherwise?

Tracy

Hi Tracy,
I am also really new to Singapore, 10 days, so still look like a deer stuck in the headlights! I too am interested in arranging regular babysitting one night a week for my two children - three years (going on 30!) and seven months. If you would be interested please drop me a line.

Cheers,
Kirrily

Hello Tracy,

I am also looking for a part-time babysitting. Are you still available? I have 2,5 years old son and I´d like to find somebody realiable to look after him one or 2 days a week.

Many thanks!
Jitka

What is up with the difficulty of finding someone local who can just mind a kid in the evening?

Seems like it's cheaper to arrange an hour of piano lessons than it is for someone to sit on a couch...
